GAZAGAZAGAZA: a show of solidarity was an international open exibition and our first Artists Supporting Palestine physical show. A collaboration with studio1.1 London and Steph Goodger, it was an act of resistance, an act of solidarity and a rejection of the artworld’s silence and complicity in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people. It ran from 10 - 27 July 2025.
The show presented over 400 works by more than 200 artists from 35 countries in a floor to ceiling, salon hang that reflected the broad and diverse range of artists who are proud to show their solidarity with the people of Palestine and their opposition to Israel's genocide. Michael Keenan and Keran James who run studio1.1 generously donated their gallery free of charge which meant that 100% of proceeds from the exhibition sales went directly to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). Over ÂŁ23,000 was raised, bringing the Artists Supporting Palestine fundraising total to almost ÂŁ75,000 by the end of the show.
Alongside the open exhibition was a dedicated gallery space entitled Voices from Gaza, which presented prints of works by two Gazan artists: Zainab Shbair and Ahmed Muhanna, as well as animations by 6 artists: Alissar Kobeissi, Ixchel Sierra (Rojo Conejo), Candy C. Rivera, Steph Goodger, Jonathan Farr and Tony Gammidge. Proceeds from the sales of Zainab and Ahmed's prints went to support Zainab and her family and to support Ahmed's art therapy work with Gaza'a children. Donations for the screenings went to a fundraiser for a community animation group in Gaza for women, children and disabled people, set up and run by distinguished Gazan animator Haneen Koraz. There was also merchandise from artist Steph Goodger's Badges for Gaza project, with tote bags, t-shirts and badges featuring drawings by three Gazan children: Ayla Elmoghany (age 3), Mohammed Hussein (age 8) and Yazeed Khodary (age 12). Proceeds from the sale of this merchandise went to the children's families. Copies of the zine 20 Drawings of 20 Palestinian Writers produced and featuring beautiful portraits by Tom Loffill and with a foreword by Palestinian writer Ghadeer Ebrahime, were available to purchase, with proceeds going to Ghadeer and her family. On the night of the PV a deeply moving voice note recorded by Ghadeer was played to those in attendance.
We were also very kindly given permission by renowned Palestinian artist Larissa Sansour to show two of Larissa's short films Nation Estate (watch the trailer here) and A Space Exodus (trailer).
During the run of the show, we held two special events. The first of these, on 20 July, was an afternoon of readings organised by artist Gill Ord. Cherry Smyth, Robin Chowdhury, Juwairiah Mussa and Michael Keenan read selected pieces by writers, poets, journalists and artists, including: Muhammad Al Zaqzouq, Adania Shibli, Basel Jarour and Samia Halaby. Then on the final Saturday of the show, we held a music and poetry open mic in Weavers Fields, a green space a short walk from the gallery. Organised by folk singer/songwriter Joe Holtaway, it featured songs performed by Joe, Nayar Collective and Monica Max West and poems/spoken word read by Kirsten Do and Tom Loffill including pieces from Gaza Poets Society by Mohammed Mousa, Taqwa Al Wawi, Ruba Khalid Al-Faleet and Mahmoud Darwish. Both events were very moving communal experiences that everyone found to be grounding and enriching.
Thank you so much to everyone, including all the artists and visitors, who made the event not just possible, but such a great success. Images and videos from the show will be added below as a permanent record of this important event.
