Artist: Dom BlowerTitle: This Sporting Life - This Sporting Life - In 1967, Katherine Switzer became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon as an officially registered competitor. Women were banned from running marathons, under the premise they were physically unable to run the distance. Switzer had completed race registration using only her initials KV. She started the race wearing a hooded sweatshirt to hide her identity. The hood came down into the run, and the race organiser, Jock Semple ran onto the course and assaulted Switzer, trying to grab her bib number in an attempt to remove her from official competition. After knocking down Switzer’s trainer and fellow runner Arnie Briggs when he tried to protect her, Semple was then shoved to the ground by Thomas Miller, who was running with Switzer, and she then completed the race.Year: 2024Medium: digital print mounted on cardSize: 5 x 7"Price: £20
